Our History
The Pearl of Africa Development Initiative was established in Kampala by Dr. Miriam Nakimuli, a renowned economist, and Mr. David Ochieng, a successful businessman with a passion for community development. Initially, PADI focused on providing microfinance loans to small businesses in rural areas. Over the years, the organization has expanded its scope to include tourism promotion, investment facilitation, and environmental conservation programs.
In 2015, PADI launched its flagship program, the "Sustainable Tourism for Community Empowerment" project, which aims to promote eco-tourism and create livelihood opportunities for local communities in Western Uganda. The project has trained over 500 local guides and supported the development of community-owned lodges and cultural centers.
In 2018, PADI partnered with the Uganda Investment Authority to attract foreign investment in key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and renewable energy. The partnership has resulted in several successful investment projects, creating thousands of jobs and boosting Uganda's economy.
